PRIMARY AND SECONDARY EDUCATION

Through strategic partnerships with individuals and donors, our programs support students in 12 different primary and secondary schools based in Hurungwe District, in Northern Zimbabwe. The nearest town is Karoi, about 75 km away.

  • 40,000 children have been supported by our educational programs.
  • With a focus on gender parity in education:
    • Girls are now present in the classroom in greater numbers,
    • Girls account for more than half the total number of students we support

HIGHER EDUCATION

Through strategic partnerships with individuals and donors, including our Baton Champion Campaign, TTI finances students to attend higher education at colleges and universities in Zimbabwe.

  • To date, we have financed 65 students to attend colleges and universities in Zimbabwe, including accommodations, transport, and meals. (6/2023)
  • 20 of our students have graduated from colleges and universities, and we are expecting more to graduate at the end of this year.

We are very proud that our students now hold confidence for a better future.

LITERACY BOOST PROGRAM

The TTI Literacy Boost program is one of our signature programs that continues to positively impact rural communities in Zimbabwe. Recently the Ministry of Education of Zimbabwe has recognized the value and impact of our program, and is now adopting this program throughout the nation.

    • The Ministry of Education literacy boost program will be called “Community Learning Centers.”
    • TTI is currently supporting 45 active reading camps throughout the cluster of Matau schools and communities.

MATAU VOCATIONAL TRAINING CENTER

Thanks to the grant and partnership with the Rotary Club of Harare, TTI has built and equipped the Matau Vocational Training Center. The opening celebration took place in February 2023.

The Matau Vocational Training Center is equipped with

  • Industrial Textile Equipment
  • 10kva Solar System for Textiles Block
  • Building Tools
  • Solar Powered Borehole
  • Three Hectare Fenced Garden

The vision is for this vocational training center to become a gateway towards sustainability for our other programs.

WATER AND SANITATION

We recognize that when students do not have access to clean water that it has a negative impact on their academic performance and general well-being. Some students could spend hours at school with no drinking water, and sometimes they have no other choice but to use unclean water from rivers.

  • Clean water for schools –
    • TTI has installed five boreholes for clean water at four schools:
      • Matau Primary (2)
      • Matau High School (1)
      • Kanyati Primary (1)
      • Musukwi Primary (1)
    • Clean water for rural villages –
      • TTI has installed one borehole at Musukwi community
      • Mhande community will soon have a new borehole, thanks to the TTI partnership with Wishes for Water founded by students at Oklahoma State University

NUTRITIONAL GARDENS

It is a well-known fact that when students are given at least 1 healthy meal at school, they are more likely to perform better and be successful.

  • TTI has built two nutritional gardens at Kanyati primary school and Matau primary school.
  • 402 students fed one meal a day at Kanyati School nutrition garden
  • 1900 students projected to be fed one meal a day from Matau Primary School nutrition garden – project aimed for completion in June 2023

TTI  plans to replicate this model of nutritional gardens throughout all the Matau cluster of schools
